About
NBC's Bionic Woman website gives some information about Madeline's life. As a political activist like her husband, Madeline Jo Sommers spent much travelling away from home. She shared some of her husband's notoriety, but spending days or weeks away at a time became an issue when she had her first daughter, Jaime Sommers, in 1983.
Being an activist meant that they did not have a large income, so Jaime went to public school where they lived in Van Horne, Iowa. In 1991, Madeline had her second daughter, Becca Sommers, adding to the cost of daily life. So when elder daughter Jaime became old enough, she helped out by getting neighborhood jobs in addition to doing her schoolwork.
When Madeline was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer in 2000, her daughter Jaime quit most of her school activities to help take care of her. And after graduating high school in 2001, she postponed college to continue doing so. Finally, in 2004, Madeline passed away due to the cancer.
