Synopsis
At 4:28AM in the morning, at Wolf Creek Biotech Research Facility, Jae Kim leads a group of guards down a hallway and past several mutilated dead bodies. Jae leads them to a room where Sarah Corvus is standing over a dead body. Sarah says she couldn't stop herself, and asks Jae if he still loves her. Jae says yes and shoots her twice: once in the chest and once in the head.
Three years later in San Francisco, CA, Jaime Sommers, leaves for home from bartending job at a night club. Arriving at her apartment, she tucks in her sister Becca, who is already asleep on the couch. The next morning, Jaime wakes up at 8:42AM from her sister's loud music. She knocks on Becca's door, complaining that her music is too loud. Becca turns off the music, then remembers that Becca's door was locked. Jaime asks her where's the computer, noting that Becca isn't allowed within 10 miles of one. Becca claims there is no computer in her room; but after Jaime leaves the room, Becca pulls out a laptop she tied in a bag and hung outside her room's window. While Jaime drives her sister to school, they discuss their father and note that he had dropped Becca off at her doorstep, and that Jaime has had no luck finding him.
Jaime catches the end of professor Will Anthros's lecture on physical enhancements and accompanies him past the Campus bus stop of local college he teaches at. Will and Jaime set a date for dinner that night at 8:30PM. Jaime goes home and prepares for dinner. She allows her sister to have over a couple friends and arranges to share a double-feature movie with her the following night. At the restaurant, Will mentions he is considering taking a job in Paris, and Jaime replies that she is pregnant. Will asks Jaime to marry him and Will begins driving Jaime home. However, they are interrupted by a semi-truck that crashes into them, sending their car crashing and wrapping around a traffic signal post.
Will is only slightly scraped in the crash, but Jaime is critically injured. Not dead, Sarah Corvus steps out of the semi-truck and walks away. Will takes Jaime via helicopter to Wolf Creek Biotech Research Facility, where he tells some staff to prep Jaime for surgery. As chief surgeon, he begins to replace Jaime's right arm, ear, eye and both legs with bionic implants.
One-eighth of Jaime's blood is also replaced with microscopic machines, called anthrocytes, that heal her other internal and external injuries. Meanwhile, Jonas Bledsoe, director of the program, is surprised to learn of the unauthorized surgery, but tells his colleague Ruth Truewell to allow it to continue and to get Jae.
Meanwhile, Sarah goes to an apartment where a male accomplice is waiting. Sarah tells the accomplice that she killed Will, not knowing that he survived the accident, and makes out with him. Sarah notes that she reminds the man of another lady.
Back at the bionics facility, Jaime is greatly shaken when she awakes to find out her body parts have been replaced, and throws Will into a glass window with her new super-strong arm. Nurses quickly tranquilize Jaime. Later, Jaime wakes up and finishes talking to Will, whose right arm is now in a cast. Ruth bring Jae back to the facility, and in a meeting of the facility's management, details to Jonas what they know about "Jaime Wells Sommers", including that she has a higher IQ than him. After the meeting, Jae implies to Will that Jaime is dangerous and should be put down.
Meanwhile, Jaime is interviewed by Ruth and learns that her sister was told that she was on vacation skiing. During the interview Jaime finishes a drawing of Sarah Corvus, whom the group thought was dead. Ruth goes to Jae and shows him the drawing while Will breaks Jaime out of the facility. Will stays behind at the facility and gets Jonas to call off the hunt to bring her back. While escaping, Jaime discovers she can run really fast and jump really far. On returning home, Becca tells Jaime she knows Jaime doesn't ski, but Jaime says that she can't tell her the truth about where she was the past couple days.
Sarah returns to her accomplice's apartment to find that him gone and a message on the wall that she failed him. The accomplice catches up with a super-max prison guard outside a bar, and he gets him to agree to do his bidding by threatening to harm his wife and having him listen to his wife on a cell phone asking for help. Meanwhile, Jae visits with Will's father at the Blackwell Super-Max Prison, 1000 feet below Florence, CA. However, Jae is unable to get any information from him about how he pulled off the hoax of Sarah's death.
That night, Jaime is bartending when Sarah approaches her. Jaime experiences nausea and disorientation from her eye and ear implants activating, and Sarah recognizing the symtoms, tells her what to expect. Sarah also notes that a cut Jaime gave herself while bartending has healed quickly from the anthrocytes in her body, but then disappears. From a distance, Jaime hears Sarah say to "tell everyone Sarah Corvus says hello". Jaime goes outside the club to follow Sarah, but loses her to do a thief with a knife. Jaime easily takes him down, and just barely restrains herself from killing him.
Later, Jaime meets up with Will at his apartment. She learns that Will also put at least a couple microchips in her head, which are used for her brain to interact with her bionic parts. Will also tells Jaime that his father originally headed the program, and that it was funded by the military as a way of helping amputees from the Gulf. Will notes that his father immediately saw the military applications his technology enabled for warfare. After finishing their discussion and spending some time together, Will is shot by Sarah Corvus via sniper rifle, and Jaime identifies her using her bionic eye. Jaime decides to head after Sarah. Meanwhile, Jae, who has been staking out Will's apartment building from his car outside, rushes in to Will and calls for backup and an ambulance.
Jaime catches up to Sarah on the nearby building rooftop. Before fighting, Sarah reveals that she was the first bionic woman, and the bionics facility had replaced both her arms, eyes and legs, part of her chest, one of her ears, and also gave her the same healing anthrocytes. Sarah does well initially against Jaime, but Jaime eventually gets the upper hand. However, their fight is interrupted by a helicopter flying over and Sarah gets away. Afterwards, Jaime talks to Jonas and tells him she agrees to work with him, but that she wants to do things her way, before returning home. At the same time, Will's father and Sarah's accomplice are hiking in the mountains of Sonora pass, CA. Now having escaped from prison thanks to the accomplice's efforts, he stares at the moon and notes that he has not seen it in 1023 days.
